Ingolf Timpner (10th May 1963, Mönchengladbach, Germany - 17th August 2018, Düsseldorf, Germany) has been a visual artist. At the age of fifteen he began to work seriously with photography. Temporarily he studied philosophy and art history at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. As an artist he was self taught. From 1989 until 1991 he lived and worked in Paris, France.

“De Profundis” (since 1993) shows meticulously arranged photographic still-lifes and portraits mainly inspired by Renaissance and Baroque master paintings, as well as classical sculptors. The series “Lichtgestalten” and “Wiedergänger” evolve psychologically complex portraits in the manner of the neoclassicist sculptors Thorvaldsen and Rauch. In his photographs, Timpner combined archaic elements with high culture refinements as a main feature of his art.

His œuvre deals with "Time, Being and Death" or the eternity of all Being and is characterized by great devotion and dedication to the creature, by silence and focus.

Timpner’s work has been collected by museums and public collections including Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Nationalgalerie, Berlin; Bibliothèque nationale, Paris; DZ-Bank, Frankfurt/Main; Filmmuseum Düsseldorf; Musée de la Photographie, Charleroi; Museum Ludwig, Cologne; Sammlung Niederösterreichische Landesmuseen, among others.
